What is BTL Emsella?

BTL Emsella is an innovative, FDA-approved weak bladder treatment which helps improve the symptoms of incontinence — leaking when you laugh, dribbling when lifting heavy objects, and losing sleep from waking multiple times a night for urination.

An innovative, FDA-approved treatment for weak bladder that improves symptoms of leaking, dribbling and disturbed sleep from frequent urination.

Uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to stimulate and contract the pelvic floor muscles.

Delivers around 11,000 Kegel-equivalent contractions in a single 30-minute session, far more than voluntary exercise can achieve.

Completely non-invasive, non-surgical and painless. Sessions are carried out fully clothed.

The fact behind the fix

Over 25 million Americans, mostly women, suffer from bladder leakage or incontinence. Many are frustrated with traditional methods — pads, Kegels, and the rest. BTL Emsella is a non-invasive, simple OPD session that treats incontinence while you remain fully clothed, using US FDA-approved HIFEM® technology to deliver entirely non-invasive stimulation to the pelvic floor musculature, rehabilitating weak muscles and restoring neuromuscular control.

How BTL Emsella works

Key points for treatment

  • FDA cleared for treatment of urinary incontinence in women (and in men, once other causes are ruled out).
  • Treats the entire pelvic floor, not just isolated muscle groups.
  • Delivers thousands of contractions per session, more than manual Kegel exercises can achieve.
  • Patients remain fully clothed throughout every session.
  • 95% patient satisfaction rate reported.

The BTL Emsella chair is approved by the FDA as a treatment for incontinence, and is available at Kalosa Clinic in Gurgaon.

Conditions it treats

01

Stress Incontinence

The most common form of incontinence in women, often brought on by childbirth, ageing or menopause as the pelvic floor muscles stretch or weaken. This reduces how well the muscles hold the bladder and urethra, so stress on the muscles — sneezing, coughing, standing, jumping or lifting — can cause leaking.

It can disrupt sleep, intimacy and confidence, and the traditional treatments — colposuspension, sling surgery, or vaginal mesh — carry real surgical risk and long recovery. Non-surgical options like BTL Emsella now offer relief without that risk.

02

Urge Incontinence

A form of incontinence where it is difficult to hold back urine, often leaking before reaching the washroom. It is usually caused by neuromuscular dysfunction and can be linked to an underlying condition such as diabetes. Mixed incontinence combines stress and urge symptoms.

Kegel exercises are the usual first recommendation, but they take time, discipline, and are not always achievable if the pelvic floor is already very weak. BTL Emsella works on the same muscles far more intensely than voluntary exercise can, with patients reporting a 75% decrease in pad use after treatment.

03

Sexual Rejuvenation

BTL Emsella regenerates tissue in the vaginal canal and pelvic floor, which also helps with vaginal laxity — a feeling of looseness common after childbirth or menopause due to strain on the tissue or loss of oestrogen and collagen.

Vaginal laxity can bring reduced sensation for both partners, dryness, pain during sex, or difficulty reaching orgasm. By tightening and strengthening the vaginal walls and opening, Emsella can improve both confidence and satisfaction.

What happens during a session

BTL Emsella treatment is perhaps the simplest and most comfortable vaginal rejuvenation treatment in the medical field.

  1. You sit in the Emsella chair, fully clothed, for the duration of the session.
  2. The chair delivers HIFEM electromagnetic pulses that contract and relax the pelvic floor muscles automatically.
  3. You may feel a tensing and releasing sensation, similar to a strong muscle contraction, but it is not painful.
  4. Each session lasts around 28 minutes — long enough to read a book or watch television.
  5. A course of six sessions, twice a week for three weeks, is recommended for optimum results.

At Kalosa Clinic, BTL Emsella treatment is carried out fully clothed, and you can comfortably read a book or magazine, or simply watch television, throughout the session.

How Emsella compares to other options

The treatments available for incontinence have traditionally been either self-directed exercise or invasive surgery. Emsella sits between the two.

Option What it involves The trade-off
Kegel exercises Self-directed, results depend on consistency and correct technique Can take months; many people never do them correctly
Pelvic floor physiotherapy Supervised sessions, manual and biofeedback techniques Effective but requires ongoing appointments
Surgery (sling, colposuspension) Corrects anatomical support surgically Invasive, recovery time, risk of complications
BTL Emsella Non-invasive HIFEM stimulation, fully clothed, 28-minute sessions No recovery time, no incisions, 95% satisfaction rate

Surgical procedures such as colposuspension, sling surgery or vaginal mesh are gradually being abandoned in the West because of their complication rates. Non-surgical options like BTL Emsella now offer an effective alternative without the risk of surgery and infection.

Who should not use BTL Emsella

Emsella is safe for the large majority of patients, but it is not suitable in a few specific situations.

  • Currently pregnant.
  • Any metal implants in the body, such as a metal hip replacement.
  • A pacemaker fitted.
  • A copper coil or IUD in place.
  • Any intimate piercings (these are removed before treatment).

If any of these apply to you, mention it at your consultation so a suitable alternative can be discussed.

Frequently Asked Questions

BTL Emsella is US FDA approved for males also, and can be used safely in both men and women. Other causes of incontinence in men, such as prostate hypertrophy, are ruled out first.

BTL Emsella is perhaps the simplest and most comfortable vaginal rejuvenation treatment available. You simply sit in the treatment chair for 30 minutes. You might feel a tensing and relaxing sensation throughout, but this is not painful. At Kalosa Clinic the treatment is carried out fully clothed, and you can read a book or watch television during your session.

Each BTL Emsella session takes only 28 minutes. We recommend six treatments over three weeks — twice per week — for optimum results.

Yes. The best results for vaginal rejuvenation come from combining BTL Emsella treatment with non-surgical vaginal tightening through radiofrequency (RF).

Some patients feel results as soon as after the first treatment, though it is more common to notice a difference after the second or third session. We recommend completing all six treatments, even if you feel results earlier, to ensure the effect lasts.

Not at all. Some patients report feeling a tensing or contraction of the muscles during treatment, but there is no pain, and the majority of patients do not find this particularly uncomfortable.

BTL Emsella is not suitable if you are currently pregnant, have any metal implants such as a hip replacement, have a pacemaker fitted, have a copper coil or IUD in place, or have intimate piercings that cannot be removed for the session.

BTL Emsella uses unique HIFEM technology to regenerate muscle and improve strength and tone. It is completely non-invasive, and the treatment is carried out while you remain fully clothed.

A standard course is six sessions, delivered twice a week over three weeks. Some patients choose maintenance sessions afterwards, particularly after a subsequent pregnancy or as part of ongoing pelvic floor care.

Yes, once you have had your postnatal check and any bleeding has settled. Many women choose Emsella specifically to address the pelvic floor weakness that follows vaginal delivery, though the exact timing is best confirmed at consultation.
